The bestselling author of Good Harbor and The Last Days of Dogtown returns to the geography of The Red Tent and re-imagines a true event in the aftermath of World War II in an intensely dramatic, profoundly sad new novel. Atlit is a holding camp for “illegal” immigrants in Israel in 1945. There, about 270 men and women await their future and try to recover from their past. Diamant, with infinite compassion and understanding, tells the stories of the women gathered in this place.
Anita Diamant is a prize-winning journalist whose work has appeared regularly in The Boston Globe Magazine and Parenting magazine. She is the author of six books about contemporary Jewish practice, one collection of autobiographical essays and three prior novels including The Red Tent, national bestseller and Book Sense Book of the Year.
Atlanta-based novelist Jack Riggs is the 2009 recipient of the award for Georgia Author of the Year for Fiction by the Georgia Writers Association for The Fireman’s Wife. Riggs also received the same award for his 2003 novel, When the Finch Rises.
